Wix OG Image Not Showing? How to Fix Social Preview Issues

Fix missing or wrong social preview images on Wix websites. Covers Wix SEO settings, og:image configuration, image size requirements, and platform cache refresh.

Why Wix OG images fail

Wix generates Open Graph tags automatically, but the default settings often produce images that are too small, incorrectly sized, or not set at the page level. The result is missing previews, blank cards, or the wrong image appearing when someone shares your link on Twitter, LinkedIn, or Facebook.

The three most common causes:

  1. No social share image set for the page
  2. Image doesn't meet platform minimum dimensions
  3. Platform cache is showing an old image after you updated it

Fix 1: Set a social share image in Wix SEO settings

Wix lets you set a specific OG image per page. In the Wix Editor:

  1. Open the Wix Editor and go to the page you want to fix.
  2. Click Pages (left panel) → hover over the page name → click the three dotsSEO (Google).
  3. Scroll to the Social Share section.
  4. Click + Add Image and upload or select your social preview image.
  5. Fill in Social Title and Social Description fields.
  6. Save and publish your site.

Fix 2: Use the correct image size

Wix often crops or resizes images automatically, which can result in an image that falls below platform minimums. For best results, upload an image that is exactly 1200×630 px. This is the recommended size for Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook.

Avoid:

  • Images smaller than 200×200 px (Facebook/LinkedIn will reject them)
  • Square images (1:1 ratio) — they display poorly on most platforms
  • Very large files (>5 MB) — some platforms won't load them

Fix 3: Set site-level fallback OG image

Wix lets you set a default social image for the entire site. In the Wix Dashboard:

  1. Go to your Wix DashboardMarketing & SEOSEO Tools.
  2. Click SEO SettingsHome Page or Site tab.
  3. Upload a default social share image to use when a page has no specific image set.

Fix 4: Clear platform cache after publishing

After publishing your changes in Wix, social platforms won't automatically show the updated image. Force a re-scrape using each platform's tool:

Wix OG tag limitations

Wix manages OG tags for you and doesn't expose raw HTML editing. This means you can't add custom meta tags directly in the <head>. The only way to control og:image is through the Social Share image field in the SEO panel. If you need more advanced OG customization, consider migrating to a platform like Next.js, Webflow, or WordPress that gives you direct HTML control.

Check your Wix OG image → Paste your Wix URL into OGFixer to instantly see how your link preview looks on Twitter, LinkedIn, Discord, and Slack.
